Using basketball as a tool to empower African youth to dream big
Giants of Africa believes that basketball is more than just a game. It fosters resilience, focus, and accountability. Their mission is to not only develop basketball players, but future leaders, who feel inspired and empowered to Dream Big and make lasting change in their communities and around the world.

Built Within
As part of Giants of Africa’s Built Within initiative—a commitment to build 100 basketball courts throughout Africa—Kensington invests in court development across the continent. Each site becomes a community hub that creates safe spaces for youth to practice, provides greater opportunities for involvement, particularly for girls. and enables players to refine a sport while gaining life and leadership skills. It also fosters community and business development through events and tournaments.

Giants of Africa Festival
The inaugural ‘Giants of Africa Festival’ was held in Kigali, Rwanda in 2023. The week-long celebration of basketball, education, culture, and entertainment united more than 250 youth from 16 countries.
The Festival was not just an event; it was a beacon of unity, inspiration, and transformation that ignited the continent.
Our funding supported the boys’ and girls’ teams from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to participate in the week-long tournament in Kigali. This sponsorship brought 16 youth ages 13-19 and 3 coaches to Kigali and covered their equipment and meals for the festival’s duration.
By leveraging the unifying power of sport, the 2023 Giants of Africa Festival was able to make a profound impact by empowering 250+ youth from 16 nations through educational and skill building programs, fostering cross-cultural understanding and dialogue to promote peace and inclusivity.
The festival now runs biannually, continuing its unifying force. Kensington continued our support of the DRC team when GOA Festival returned to Kigali in 2025. Festival returned even bigger, with 320 young men and women from 20 African nations participating in this unparalleled event that aims to imagine a borderless Africa.
