Transforming Lives in Kenya: Kensington Cares and the Mara West Foundation Partnership

In April 2025, Kensington executives, along with leadership from across Navigatr Group, traveled to Kenya for their mid-year strategy session and took the opportunity to visit Kensington Cares projects, including a stop at Mara West Foundation in the Maasai Mara. 

Working in partnership with local Maasai leadership, Mara West Foundation supports communities by improving quality of life through education and infrastructure development. Kensington Cares’ partnership with the Foundation began in 2007, supporting locally led initiatives including Kensington Hall Oloosinon Secondary School, Oloosinon Primary School, the AMS Health Clinic, and the Women’s Health. Since then, we have invested US $1.5 million in these projects.

Visiting the Oloosinon Schools 

The first stop on the visit was Oloosinon Primary School, where students welcomed the team with songs and dances, and invited them to join in on the traditional Maasai celebrations. The team toured classrooms and met with students before making the short journey to the nearby healthcare facilities. There, Francis Aho, who oversees the AMS Clinic and community medical efforts, shared the transformational impact of the services offered—ranging from comprehensive women’s healthcare to dental and eye care, and emergency support. The footprint of care continues to expand to meet the growing needs of the community. 

Reflecting on a moving morning, the team was met by the students of Kensington Hall, who walked together with them to the secondary school grounds. They were welcomed with unforgettable warmth, as hundreds of people from across the community turned out to mark the occasion. 

Although the school officially opened in 2019 and has already graduated four classes of girls, this marked the first visit from Kensington’s broader leadership team. The community seized the opportunity to celebrate it as a symbolic grand opening, which also aligned with the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024. From student performances to community presentations, the message was clear: education is the most powerful tool to help a child succeed. 

The Navigatr leadership team joined the festivities, handing out gifts to graduating students in recognition of their achievements. In return, they were presented with traditional Maasai shuka cloths in appreciation for making the journey and their continued investment in the community. 

Following the group visit, seven members of the Kensington team returned to Mara West Camp for an extended opportunity to more deeply explore the Foundation’s impact and learn about the ongoing challenges the community faces. This included meetings with school principals, nurses, dentists, and the Mara West team, as well as hands-on volunteer work. The group spent a morning installing rainwater collectors at Oloosinon Primary School and helping upgrade the school kitchen at Kensington Hall. 

The visit to the Mara West Foundation was a powerful reminder that Kensington Cares’ support goes far beyond infrastructure—it’s about creating opportunity and helping people believe in brighter futures.
