Departing from a central meet point in Reykjavik, embark on a small group tour to the dormant Thrihnukagigur volcano, a unique natural phenomenon offering the only place on earth where a huge volcanic magma chamber is accessible to humans! Once arriving to a hiking access point outside of Reykjavik, your guide will lead you and a group of up to 18 participants on a moderately challenging 2-mile hike through a hilly, rugged and pitted lava field, lasting up to 60 minutes. The hike is an integral part of the day, not only because of its impressive scenery, but also because it's the only way to reach the volcanic chamber opening aside from arriving by helicopter. After the last 10 minutes ascending the mountain path, you'll arrive to the Thrihnukagigur crater base, from where you'll break into smaller groups for a descent of 400 feet to the bottom of the magma chamber in an open cable lift, exposing a whole new world of subterranean wonder. A true delight for curious minds, you'll spend around 40 minutes on the ground of the volcano exploring and admiring this once-in-a-lifetime environment.
