Discover the many faces of Bangkok as you weave your way through the city's most iconic landmarks. Get spiritual in Buddhist temples, stroll through vibrant markets, admire striking royal architecture and encounter communities and descendants of the Portuguese. Start your day by witnessing the monks' early morning chanting during your visit to Wat Pho, one of the city's oldest temples with the largest reclining Buddha in the country (150 ft). Hear stories, legends and traditions at the City Pillar Shrine. Be swept up by the grandeur, treasures, and architecture of the Grand Palace - the former royal residence, and step inside Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) the spiritual seat of Thai Buddhism and its most revered shrine in the Thai Kingdom. After a break for lunch at a local, family-style Thai restaurant, ride the ferry across the Chao Phraya River to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), one of the city's most iconic sights. Admire the mosaic decorated prangs (towers) as you ascend the steps for a panoramic view across the city. Spend time in the Kudi Jeen neighborhood and discover a rich culture with the Roman Catholic Santa Cruz Church at the heart of the community. Here, try the local sweet, baked treat. Finally, awaken your senses to an explosion of color and fragrance at Bangkok's energetic flower market.
Please note: Many of Thailand's temples require a modest dress code and items like sleeveless, see-through or mesh tops, very short shorts and miniskirts are not allowed. In participating in morning alms, shoes will need to be removed.
