Breathe the Mountain Air
This morning, set out on a fantastically scenic and mildly challenging half day ascent of Table Mountain. After being picked up by your guide, drive to the lower cable car station and lace up your shoes; you will not be taking the leisurely way up but instead participating on a panoramic climb of the mountain. Tracking what is widely considered to be the most impressive hiking route alongside an expert guide, march through rocky trails that wind up the front of the mountain and to a series of vertical faces, fortunately protected by chains and staples, followed by a series of ledges that afford sweeping, panoramic views of Cape Town, Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles. Though easier said than done, be sure to keep an eye to the ground below your feet; this land is home to a mind-boggling array of rare and endemic species of plant life that are too often overlooked. Strong walkers are encouraged to continue to the highest point at Maclear’s Beacon before returning to traverse the western table, descending via cable car. Please note: The cable-car can close at any time due to inclement weather. In this event you are required to walk off the mountain, approximately two hours of additional hiking will be required.
Meet your private guide and driver for a half-day discovery of Cape Town. Set out around the periphery of the city for some picture-perfect views of the omnipresent Table Mountain, the single most welcoming icon of the city, its plateau a beacon for visitors near and far. There’s no better way of understanding local history than through your Capetonian guide. Hear of Cape Town’s storied past as your guide recounts the colorful histories of the Houses of Parliament, the Castle of Good Hope (South Africa’s oldest building) and the well-tended Company Gardens. Bargain your way through the lively Greenmarket Square in search of souvenir while meeting local artisans along the way. As you enter another one of Cape Town’s famed areas at Bo-Kaap, learn how the Cape Malay community, with its cobbled streets and brightly colored houses, became one of city’ most vibrant neighborhoods. From here you have the choice of being dropped off at the V&A Waterfront to experience this landmark at your own pace, with its many shops, restaurants and pubs - or at your hotel to end the tour. Should you choose to visit the waterfront, please speak to your Destination Expert for a range of recommendations for lunch.
