Depart from Puno Peru, with private vehicle, guide and driver for a 2 1/2 hour drive to the town of Copacabana, located on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca. Copacabana offers small town charm in a place where the locals are both welcoming and proud of their native heritage. Enjoy a private tour of Sacred Sun Island, considered the cradle of the Inca culture and for many the most attractive island of Lake Titicaca. Continue on to La Paz, one of the highest cities in the world at nearly 4000 m (13,120 ft) above sea level. No other major South American city holds on to its past so firmly. Many locals continue to wear traditional garments as the country has a strong indigenous culture. Enjoy a full day city tour to explore the local markets and colonial sites of La Paz, and continue on to the Moon Valley to visit the unique lunar like formations.

Itinerary

Day 1
Puno - Copacabana
Transfer from Puno to Copacabana about 2 ½ hours time in order to arrive to the peaceful village of Copacabana on the way we will have the view of the highest navigable lake “Titicaca”. Enjoy lunch at leisure (not included in tour price). Sightseeing in this small village visiting the imposing cathedral that shows mudéjar influences in its design, with whitewashed stone walls and multiple domes decorated with deep blue tiles. This temple was originally build by the Augustinian order to house the miraculous Virgin de Copacabana, a beautiful image with a native Andean face, dressed in lavish robes embroidered with gold and silver thread and crowned with a golden halo. The massive gold altarpiece is also remarkable, decorated with silver leaves brought from the Potosi mines and also paintings from the 18th century of invaluable cost decorate the interiors of the church. Afterwards we will visit the colorful market and the souvenir street.
Optional visit of a view point (involves 1 ½ hours walking r/t to arrive and back to this hill “El Calvario”) , on the way you will have several photo opportunities. Puno is the center of Peruvian folklore and hosts some of the best festivals. Spaniards were lured to the region by the vast mineral wealth and the area is dotted with both colonial churches and pre-Columbian ruins. Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, is the home of the Uros people who have for centuries built their homes and boats out on the lake using Totora reeds. Around the lake can be found pre-AD 1000 remains from the Pucara and Tiahuanaco cultures.

Day 2
Copacabana - La Paz
Tour on board a motor boat on the highest navigable lake to visit the south section of the sacred Sun Island, considered the cradle of the Inca culture and for many the most attractive island of Titicaca Lake. There are two main attractions: The Yumani area where we will find the fountain of water which is supposed to grant eternal youth and Picocaina area, a mysterious Inca Ruin. After visiting these highlights we will enjoy a traditional Aymara lunch “Aptapi” (different potatoes, beans, and a tasty rainbow trout fish) Included in the cost of the tour. Enjoy lunch (included in tour price). Enjoy dinner at leisure (not included in tour price). A modern 15-story building, the Hotel Europa is located in the financial district next to Tiahuanaco Museum, 12 km from the airport. It features 98 guest rooms, each of which offers a spacious area for working and relaxing. With plump feather pillows and the finest cotton bed linen, guests are assured of a most refreshing night's sleep after a hard day of work or play. The hotel also features an excellent health club, including pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, massage and health bar. Copacabana is the main Bolivian town on Lake Titicaca, from where boats leave for Isla del Sol, the sacred Inca island. The town has a large 16th-century shrine, the Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana. It is located between Mount Calvario and Mount Niño Calvario. Copacabana's religious celebrations, cultural patrimony, and traditional festivals are well known throughout Bolivia.

Day 3
La Paz
Founded in 1548 by the Spanish conquistadors La Paz is the highest capital city in the world. Begin our tour with a visit to an interesting open fruit -potatoes market, walking inside and discovering the social and cultural life of the Aymaras people. Later we will go to the main colonial street where we will visit the Gold Museum from the Tiwanaku culture. In this area we will walk around the old part of La Paz, taking pictures of facades of the colonial churches, and the republican houses dating from the beginning of the century. In the Plaza Murillo, a brief explanation about the political situation of Bolivia, the system of administration and everything related with the history about the Bolivian revolutions, then we will go to a panoramic view point for excellent views of this historical city. Afterwards we will descend to the Moon Valley, and do a nice walking tour in the area in order to see the work of the erosion of million of years, lunch (included in the tour) will be in a residential neighborhood. In the afternoon we continue to the witches’ market street where we find many hand craft shops, and various amulets for the good luck. Enjoy lunch (included in tour price). Enjoy dinner at leisure (not included in tour price). Overnight at Hotel Europa. La Paz is the capital, and cultural center of Bolivia. It is served by El Alto International Airport, one of the highest-altitude commercial airports in the world (4000m+). The city features excellent marketplaces and several good museums. Notable sights include; Cathedral of San Francisco, Metropolitan Cathedral, Palacio Quemado, Congress, and the Calle Jaen. It is also located close to the ancient Tiahuanacu ruins.

  • Your deposit is due immediately on booking (30% of program price). The balance is due 90 days prior to departure. We accept payment via credit card, certified check, wire transfer or money order.
  • The price shown is per person, and does not include international air fare to/from the trip start point
  • Cost increases in currency exchange, government fees, taxes, surcharges or hotel/lodge tariff increases between quote date and start date are payable by the client.
  • We will exercise best efforts to book hotels per the itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of tour date we may be forced to offer substitutes. We will endeavour to confirm final hotel bookings as soon as possible.
  • Cancellations 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund less any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of deposit. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to 100% of program price.
