Day 1
Maubec This pleasant little village of Maubec is peacefully situated at the foot of the Luberon mountain, not far from Cavaillon. Surrounded by the magnificent natural environment of the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon, Maubec offers superb walks in the tranquil countryside. In the streets of the old village, you will discover the "Tour de l'Horloge du Beffroi", beautiful old houses and lovely old doorways delicately faded over time. Maubec is also an important grape-growing region known for the production of the "AOC Côtes du Luberon" wines, "eaux de vie" and oil from grape pips. The Sunday morning market is also well worth visiting. You will be transferred from Avignon to Maubec today by private vehicle. Upon arrival at your villa, you will be shown around the property by our local Representative who will make sure that you are comfortable knowing how everything works, be given friendly advice on where you may like to dine locally and a contact number in case you need to call them throughout your villa stay. Unpack and settle into your home away from home. Wander down to the local grocery store in the village for some supplies and sit back and relax in the peaceful garden of your villa. No doubt the pool will be inviting and offer the perfect antidote to your earlier travels today. Forget about cooking this evening and consider having a chef come to your villa and prepare a wonderful meal for you tonight. Provencal cuisine incorporates many of the wonderful vegetables, herbs and spices from the area to provide many wonderful dishes. Why not start your journey of discovering the tastes of Provence with the chef's offerings this evening... The five bedroom Villa maison de Treille is a charming property, situated in the small village of Maubec in the Luberon, close to the many delightful hill villages and activities which this area offers. There is a small food shop in Maubec, and more in nearby Coustellet. The villages of Oppède-le-Vieux, Gordes, Ménerbes and Bonnieux are all within a 15 minute drive. Although a village house, it is hidden from view behind a stone wall, and accessed by electric security gates. Within the walled garden is a 9 x 5m covered swimming pool, which can heated on request, with pool house, and beyond this a lovely covered terrace from which the views to the Luberon mountain range can be enjoyed. The building is divided into two parts; the main part comprising the living area, tastefully decorated with antique furniture, and equipped with satellite TV, and two bedrooms. The second part, houses the other three bedrooms and a typical provençal living room, opening to a covered terrace. There is air-conditioning in the bedrooms, and the property also has internet access. Overnight at Maison de Treille Villa. |

The first floor has a double bedroom with ceiling fan, dressing room and view of the garden. A shower room has a double basin and separate WC. Another double bedroom with ceiling fan, en-suite shower room with double basin and separate WC is also on this floor. Consider spending the day on a private tour of the hilltop villages of the Luberon - a magical part of Provence. Hilltop villages perch over the valleys below, narrow winding roads cut through corn fields, olive groves and vineyards, and large farmhouses in the local stone lie dotted throughout the landscape. This is truly a painters paradise! Spend the day discovering some of the most beautiful hilltop villages in the area including Menerbes, Bonnieux and Lacoste. Menerbes was made famous by Peter Mayle's book - A Year in Provence. The Dolmen de la Pichouno (unique to the Vaucluse) shows that Ménerbes has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Archeological excavations have uncovered the remains of villas and an ancient cemetery dating back to Roman times. The village is the perfect place to take a morning stroll through. Admire the buildings all made from the local stone. Next on the list is Bonnieux. Built on a plateau above the valley, Bonnieux is one of the finest villages in the area. The houses spread out on the hill-side form a striking harmony of earth-toned colors and shapes. After having climbed 86 stone steps to the "Vieille Eglise" (old church) and the old cedar trees you will discover a beautiful view of the Monts du Vaucluse, and the villages of Gordes and Roussillon. Throughout the day you may well spot some "bories" - little round huts built in stone that were at one time used by shepherds or hunters in the area. The medieval village of Lacoste is very picturesque and retains the ruins of the Chateau de Sade - the Marquis de Sade's castle. Stop off along the way to visit a local artists studios such as an animal sculptor and a potter and learn about the artisanal side of Provence. In the afternoon, enjoy some time on your own to relax. Day 3
Maubec The villa Maison de la Treille is located 2km outside of Oppède-le-Vieux 4km from Coustellet and 6km away from Cavaillon. The well-known hilltop villages are close by - Gordes (8 kms away), Ménerbes (8 kms) and Bonnieux (10 kms away). A possibility today would be to discover the hilltop villages of Gordes and Roussillon in the company of your private driver and local guide. The village of Gordes stands on the edge of the plateau of Vaucluse. Its houses of white and gray stone rise up in a spiral around the rock where the village is set. At the very top is the church and the castle which face out onto the hills of the Luberon. Due to its privileged position, its exceptional charm and its typical architecture, Gordes has been listed as "one of the most beautiful villages of France". Just a few kilometres outside of town lies the magnificent Senaque abbey. Cistercian monks still live there producing honey, lavender essence, and liqueurs. The whole twelfth century edifice is open for visits and depending on the time of your visit, you may have the chance to hear some Gregorian chants by the monks at vespers. From here, you could continue on one of the most impressive villages in France - Roussillon. Situated in the heart of one of the biggest ochre deposits in the world, Roussillon is famous for its magnificent red cliffs and ochre quarries. The red, yellow and brown shades of the earth form a striking contrast with the lush green pine trees. Taking the time to stroll around the picturesque maze of streets and squares in the company of your local guide would be recommended before enjoying a visit of the "Conservatoire des Ocres et des Pigments Appliqués", situated in an old ochre factory. Here you will see the different stages that go into making ochre suitable for painting. Enjoy lunch in one of the hilltop villages you visit today - there are lots of great, local restaurants to choose from. Spend time back at the villa this afternoon lounging poolside, reading a book or perhaps playing petanque (similar to bacci) - one of the local's favorite pastimes! The flow of the water is very gentle so is perfect for people of all abilities and ages. Isle sur la Sorgue - France's version of Venice, is a picturesque town which is surrounded by water on all sides and has a long pedestrianzed street with lots of great little boutiques to explore. Walking along the canals you will notice how they run between the narrow ancient streets. There are little bridges to cross and great wheels to look at with mossy blades turning in the river.
