Itinerary

Day 1 Sorrento

Surrounded by hills and shielded from the Mediterranean by perpendicular cliffs that plunge directly into the water, Sorrento is the centrepiece of the Amalfi Coast. The train station is steps away from the downtown with its cluster of hotels and restaurants. Sorrento is the most popular base to explore the Amalfi Coast with more budget options. It has a very good beach, and is the main port for the ferry to the island of Capri (a great day trip). It is also famous for limoncella, a sweet lemon liqueur made from the profusion of lemon trees growing up the steep cliffs along the entire coast. And of course, you must try the seafood cuisine.

Enjoy a private transfer with a vehicle and English speaking driver from Naples to the Amalfi coast, stopping off at Pompei for a 2 hour guided visit with an English speaking Guide. Your Private Guide will meet you at Pompei and bring you through the fascinating site. Walk through some of the ancient streets of Pompeii where you can see the baths, forums and villas built by the prosperous Romans in the year 80 BC. Marvel at the fabulously preserved frescoes which adorned the walls and floors of the villas. Even if your interests do not lie in history, you will still be incredibly impressed by this massive archaeological site which includes the Amphitheatre, Gymnasium, House of Menandro, The Grand theatre and Small theatre, Gladiators Barracks, Thermal baths, House of Vetti. Continuing en route to the Amalfi coast. (Includes entrances into Pompei).

Dinner is at leisure this evening. You may like to wander down to the local village of Marina del Lobra this evening which is only 1 km from the villa and easily accessible by foot.

The premium, three bedroom Villa Gelsomina is a waterfront property located in Massalubrense - some 4 kilometers from Sorrento. The villa is set in an extremely peaceful and residential area of the Sorrento Coast and boasts a lovely 4.5 x 10 meter pool. The living room accesses the first double bedroom and separate bathroom with shower. A small bedroom with twin beds is located just a few steps away. The third bedroom includes a double bed with bathroom and is located in an independent building with its own access. The bedrooms are all simply furnished, but very comfortable. The spacious terrace with a small seating area and decorated with wonderful Bougainvillea, boasts a spectacular view of the Bay of Naples with the Islands of Capri, Ischia, and Procida. The villa Gelsomina has direct beach access reachable by a private staircase (60 steps) and is equipped with a sunshade and lounge chairs, a changing room and a bathroom with shower. The quaint village of Marina del Lobra, with its lovely beach, is just 1 km away and both the marina and beach are easily accessible by foot.

Enjoy a half day private tour of the Amalfi coast with an English speaking guide, private vehicle and driver. There are lots of interesting villages and sites in the area that are worth exploring including Positano, Ravello, Amalfi and Cetara. Approaching from above Positano, one is greeted by a vista of lemon and orange groves, flowers, trees, small allotments, olive groves and gardens which continues right down to the sea. Positano is completely pedestrianized and a great place to stroll through and enjoy a coffee or lunch. It's buildings cling, in tiers to the rock face and the small houses, all huddling on top of each other, so characteristic of Positano, form the subject of endless photos. The vibrant colors; the white of the buildings, forming a perfect canvas for the bright flowers which decorate the houses, and the small artisans', shops with their multihued cloths, present the visitor with a vista which is almost difficult to believe. The picturesque town of Ravello, some 5km from Amalfi, has a number of must-see sites including the Villa Rufolo, from the XII century, built by the Rufolo's family and Villa Cimbrone, due to their splendor and decor. Both villas have an amazingly beautiful garden to visit. Indeed, from Villa Cimbrone, you can admire one of the best panoramic views of Italy, on all the Amalfi Coast, and on the Coast of Cilento. The pretty town of Amalfi features a series of white houses, most with barrel vault ceilings and built on terraces within a picturesque web of alleys and stairways. The main monument and symbol of the city is the Cathedral of St. Andrew, preceded by an imposing staircase. Further along the coast lies the town of Cetara. For centuries, it was influenced by the financial and spiritual fortunes of the Benedictine abbey in Cava dei Tirreni; nowadays it is dominated by its busy fishing harbor. Depending on time and your preference, the day will be spent visiting these beautiful towns and stopping off at scenic points along the way.

Enjoy dinner at leisure in Sorrento. Here are a few suggestions: La Bascilica - Uninterrupted hot food from midday until 1am in this old establishment in the small basilica from which it takes its name. Day 6 Sorrento

Enjoy the morning learning the art of Italian cooking in the presence of a true Italian Mama! After being transferred from Sorrento, you will be made feel welcome upon arrival in your hosts' private home situated on a cliff top 1,000 ft above the sea with stunning coastal views just outside of Ravello. The cooking course is held in a state-of-the-art outdoor kitchen on the terrace laden with lemon trees which provide welcome shade from the heat of the day (not to mention the delicious homemade lemon cake!). Your host has a vast experience in traditional southern Italian cuisine and has cooked for both Italian Heads of State and American celebrities that frequented Ravello in the 1950's and 60's, such as Humphrey Bogart, Elizabeth Taylor, and Jacqueline Kennedy and many others. Her extraordinary gift for home style cooking with regional ingredients comes across in everything she prepares. This is a "demonstration" cooking course where you will learn about the natural ingredients used, which are freshly picked the very morning of your class. The Italian garden is located below the terrace, so you can also learn about growing the organic vegetables. On the same level is a small farm with free-range chickens, turkeys and rabbits. Traditional dishes will include antipasti, pastas, breads, seasonal vegetable dishes as well as meat dishes. Last but not least are the cakes and marmalades! All the recipes will be clearly demonstrated in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. After the class, share in the wonderful meal, and enjoy the local wines of the Amalfi region. In a land where limoncello is famous, your host also prepares liquors made from tangerine, apricot and fennel which you may like to sample to finish off the feast. Late afternoon after a leisurely few hours enjoying fantastic food (which you have had a hand in creating!), your driver will pick you up and drop you back to your hotel in Sorrento.

Day 7 Sorrento

A security deposit of 300euros is required for the rental of this villa. (not included in tour price).

A cleaning charge of 150euros is not included in the rental of this villa and should be paid directly by you onsite.

Enjoy a full day tour to the island of Ischia in the company of an English speaking Guide. After being picked up from your hotel, you will board a Jetfoil to the island. Ischia is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples and is well known for its thermal hot springs and volcanic mud. Once on the island, take a transfer by bus to the Poseidon Garden thermal park where you have time at leisure to avail of the hot springs. The major attraction of this thermal park is its unique setting which is in the bay of Citara in Forio.  The therapeutic effect is based both on the richness and variety of mineral salts, and on the beneficial effect of the high temperature of these waters. The water temperature varies from 28° C to 40° C (82° F to 104° F ), and the abundance of water means that it is constantly renewed. A Roman sauna, a large private beach are equipped with deck-chairs and beach umbrellas, and various restaurants of which one is situated in a beautiful grotto of local tuff-stones and a boutique with a newspaper kiosk, complete this establishment.
