Day 2
LONDON The London Underground, or ‘the tube’ as it is universally known to Londoners, is normally the quickest and easiest way of getting round London. Greater London is served by 12 tube lines, along with the independent (though linked) and privately owned DLR and an interconnected rail network. The first tube train operates at around 5:30am Monday to Saturday and around 7am Sunday; the last train leaves between 11:30pm and 12:30am depending on the day, the station and the line. Remember that any train heading from left to right on the map is designated as eastbound, and any train heading from top to bottom is southbound- no matter how many squiggles and turns it makes. If your two stations are not on the same line, you need to note the nearest station where the two lines intersect, and it is here that you must change trains. Step out into this fantastic city and explore with your travel card - the best way to see London! Consider having your own chauffeur driven vehicle for a half or a full day to off load your purchases throughout the day. To get the best out of your days shopping, you may like to consider having a personal Shopping Expert accompany you. They know lots of the hidden gems within the city and bring you to places off the beaten path for that something extra special. Please speak to your Kensington Tours Sales Advisor if either of these options are of interest. Enjoy lunch at leisure (not included in tour price). Here are some ideas for a Self Guided Shopping Tour... Outside of the mainstream shopping street of Oxford Street, Regent Street and Knightsbridge, there are plenty of great areas to check out... The Cabbages & Frocks Market in Marylebone High Street offers the best of global food, together with fashion and lifestyle. Popular with the tourists, St Christopher's Place is one of the most exciting specialist shopping locations in the West End. The area is made up of walkways that include Gees Court, St Christopher's Place, James Street, Barrett Street and parts of Oxford Street and Wigmore Street. Duke of York Square, in Chelsea is the area's newly developed pedestrian precinct. The eateries feature great outdoor spaces. One of the best places for outdoor shopping, Spitalfields is a quirky shoppers' dream. If you're looking for a one-off piece or something truly unique, you'll find it here. There is always plenty happening during the evening in London, regardless of the season or time of year. Consider spending an enjoyable evening at the theatre or watching a broadway musical. Alternatively, a dinner cruise or a medieval banquet dinner in the company of Henry VIII complete with jousting knights, minstrels, troupers and strolling players by flickering torchlight in the vaulted cellars of Ivory House, just a stones throw from the Tower of London and Tower Bridge may catch your fancy. Please speak to your Kensington Tours Sales Advisor if any of these options are of interest.
